Dwayne Morgan, 39, a businessman of 20 Plantain Walk, Blairmont, West Bank Berbice is on trial in the Berbice High Court before Justice Jo Ann Barlow and a mixed Jury on a charge of attempted murder.
Morgan who sells and delivers feeds and baby chicks will have to face a judge and jury on the attempt murder charge committed on businessman, Randholl Bissondat, 39, called “Katcha” and Kempton, of Lot ‘B’ 18 Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice. The incident is alleged to have occurred on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Bath, West Coast Berbice.
The State case is being presented by State Prosecutor, attorney- at-law, Tuanna Hardy. Attorney-at-law, Haymant Ramdhani in association with attorney-at-law, Rizwaun Mohamed is appearing for the accused.
On the day in question, the two men who are both businessmen, were driving separate trucks around 20:14 hrs in the Bath area.
They both tried to turn into a street coming from different directions. However, the street had a heap of sand thus making it impossible for the two trucks to pass at the same time. There was a near collision as both men tried to force their way through.
An altercation subsequently ensued and Bissondat allegedly received several chops and other injuries to his head, left hand, teeth and about his body from Morgan.
Morgan was subsequently arrested and charged.
In court, Prosecutor, Hardy called Bissondat to the witness stand. The man was led in his evidence in chief by the Prosecutor as he detailed to the court the series of events as it unfolded on the day. However, after he was broadsided by the accused, he fell to the ground; he lost consciousness some time during the incident.
He was rescued by his father who took him to the doctor. Subsequently, the accused reversed his truck and drove away. He also stated that he knew the accused for about six years.
Attorney-at-law Ramdhani grilled the witness on various aspects of his evidence. He pointed to a number of inconsistencies in his statement which he gave to the police, in the Magistrate’s and High Court.
The preliminary inquiry which was conducted by Magistrate Rhondell Weaver in the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court proved that a Prima Facie case was made out against the accused.
The Prosecution’s case during the PI was presented by Corporal Racquel Mars. The matter is continuing.
