The Guyana Police Force ‘G’ Division, has made yet another effort to enhance youth empowerment in Region Two. The force recently hosted a spelling bee competition which facilitated slow learners and seldom school attendees, between the ages of seven and 12.
The Charity Police Youth Group competed against the Anna Regina/Henrietta Group at the Anna Regina Police Station last Saturday. Both teams consisted of five members. The Anna Regina Youth Group secured first place with an overall 117 points. Charity on the other hand concluded with 108 points.
Officer attached at the Anna Regina Youth Group, Satesh Singh, explained that the youth club was established to help children in the community, who would seldom attend school.
Singh explained, “There are some children that never had the opportunity to go to school, we make an effort to reach out to them. In the group, we teach life skills, health education, physical education and we even offer counselling where needed.
We take them out on tours and they enjoy other classes such as the Zara Computer School.”
Other policing youth groups on the Essequibo Coast include Charity, Aurora, Dartmouth and Supenaam.
