Dear Editor,
“For we wrestle not against flesh or blood, but against principalities and powers and wickedness that exists, in high places”. Is Sherod Duncan God-fearing, and is the individual a member of a Secretive Gay Society?
The reason for asking the question is primarily because “Of all the persons who sit around the horseshoe table at City Hall Sherod Duncan in my opinion is the most articulate, transparent and professional”.
But sad to say, I have lost all the respect I once had for the individual. He is a Secondary School and University graduate, former Deputy Mayor who is the Chairperson of the M&C.C: Legal Affairs& Securities Committee who breached all norms of accountability, diplomacy, social decorum and transparency.
This is by virtue of Duncan’s inability to contact the Child Protection Agency and the Guyana Police Force for advice on the “dastardly act” of child molestation by a former member of the City Constabulary with a 15-year-old male.
It remains totally unacceptable for a period of two months to elapse, before imposing a sanction on the perpetrator. Then the Mayor, Town Clerk and Chief Constable all became elements of the “not me society” in refusing to accept where the “buck stops”.
Is the Town Clerk, empowered to interview the victim, in accordance to the M&CC statutes? Previously it was a colossal embarrassment, leading up to the Local Government Elections, with the Winston Harding scenario. The element of “party paramountcy” ruled the roost, with Councillor Harding, eventually being elected despite allegations of “child molestation”.
Finally, with numerous letters being published in the print media, denouncing the M&CC. it’s worthy of note that Vidyaratha Kissoon, has once again penned a letter in which the individual as a “Childs Activist” quite rightfully is denouncing the “dastardly acts”.
But I can’t recall ever reading of the individual’s denunciation of the Islamic Tutor, at Sophia Masjid who is accused of sexual molestation of minors.
With the M&CC, having Municipal Day Care Centres under its jurisdiction, isn’t prudent for a “Commission of Inquiry” to be set up, to ascertain if the day-to-day operations are above board?
