– Fright Maze with creatures from local folklore, kids to have faces painted with Guyanese characters
Move over Dracula, Leprechaun and Abominable Snowman. Mr. Baccoo, Mr. Jumbie and Mrs. Old Higue are about to crash your Halloween party.
For the first time, ever, the creatures from Guyanese folklore will be included among the ‘guests’ at a local Halloween event.
It will all happen between October 23rd to 27, when the promoters of the annual Yankee All White Boat Cruise and Gtmemoirs host a grand Guyanese inspired Halloween Festival.
It will take place at the Yankee All White Fright Centre located at Lot 76 Market Street, East Ruimveldt.
According to the organizers, the event is intended to be ‘an exciting and new way to get folklore back into the hearts of Guyanese.”
From 15.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs daily, students and their guardians are invited to walk through the edu-tainment Fright Maze and learn about the many scary ‘jumbies’ found in Guyanese Folklore. Pictures of these folklore characters, from Old Higue, baccoo, massacurraman, and many others, will also be depicted on the walls in the Fright Maze.
The participants can have their faces painted with their favourite ‘Jumbie’ by Bravo Arts and have the satisfaction of knowing that they are supporting a good cause, since the proceeds from the Halloween Fright Fest will be going to the Prevention of Teenage Suicide (POTS) Guyana.
Limited copies of the recently released local supernatural novel Kamarang, by Michael Jordan, will also be on sale at the event.
The festival is sponsored by Sueria Manufacturing Inc., Azzie Biko Clothing and Leon Gilegous, Carol Wills and Wonda Grant.
