Oct 19, 2017 Letters
Dear Editor,
I have attached photo images with this letter. They were captured on Sunday morning, Oct.15, 2017 at the Bourda Market and a photo speaks a million stories. No, the shirtless subject did not shoplift or steal. I walked into a situation just as it unfolded and I overheard the conversation about the shirtless young man apparently rode or pushed a cycle or motor cycle on the pavement that surrounds the Bourda Market and he was invited to the constabulary office by the officers in the photos.
He refused the invitation and the drama took a different twist. After these photos were taken, the subject was chased in and around the Bourda Market and only God knows how it ended. I am certain that I saw blood from the shirtless subject just after he broke loose, but I am not sure what caused it and how serious his injury is at the time of writing. If indeed that was the situation, I now ask the question ‘Should the young man be penalised for his ignorance of the law?’ Where should we park our cycles and motor cycles when visiting the Bourda Market or any other market?
Where can we read notices on sign/bill boards that parking and pushing of cycles/motor cycles are not allowed? Is pushing/parking a cycle or motor cycle on any pavement an offence and what is the penalty? Who is responsible from the Mayor’s Office of Geogetown to sensitize or educate the public of the city laws?
I say to the Mayor of Georgetown who overlooks the constabulary offices in the city, the Commissioner of Police and the Courts that in my opinion, no charges should be laid on the subject because it appears that he is ignorant of the city laws and I publicly admit that I am also the same. Please start an education awareness campaign so such situations can be avoided.
Yours Faithfully
T.Pemberton
