Leyland Benjamin, 50, of 44 East La Penitence was hit by a white Premio car in the vicinity of North East La Penitence. He suffered a broken ankle.
Benjamin stated that he was walking to work when he was struck by the vehicle.
According to Benjamin,”I was coming across the street approaching from North East La Penitence, when the car was coming from Sussex Street. Same time a truck was coming from the opposite direction by the bridge.
The driver of the car decided to jump the truck instead of waiting at the stop sign and he speed off and in doing so, he hit me. All I try to do is pull myself into the corner because nobody ain’t help me. All the truck-man do is stop he vehicle and drive off. I had to call my sister and that’s how I got here.”
Mr Benjamin stated that the area experiences a lot of accidents in the vicinity of the Sussex Street Bridge.
He also stated that he works as a security guard to support his two children and that the accident has put him into financial problems. He was discharged yesterday and is seeking justice.
The matter was reported to the East La Penitence Police Station. The investigation for the getaway driver is still on-going.
