Dear Editor,
It is a daily frustration for drivers commuting from the West Bank Demerara to Georgetown via the Harbour Bridge. The traffic starts building up from as early as 6:10 am. Now imagine one joins the traffic lines and spends about 40 minutes every morning simply trying to get onto the bridge, all the while there are vehicles that are jumping straight to the front of the lines because they are driving in the oncoming traffic lane. Mind you, there are several police officers all along the route.
These police allow their friends, family members, neighbours, etc. to drive illegally in the wrong lane so that they can “bore” to the front of the line. Just before getting onto the bridge, a police constable even stops the regular traffic to allow these other vehicles to enter the line.
It is extremely frustrating, as a regular driver, to be sitting in a chaotic line, for so long and just to have about 30 vehicles fly pass you on the side and “bore” in front of everyone.
Here are our police officers that are charged with enforcing the traffic laws of the country, but every single day break those same laws with no discretion for the common man. I am hoping that by having more persons aware of this regular occurrence, that this behaviour will be curbed.
Kapil Singh.
