Doctor Yesu Persaud was yesterday honoured when a new lecture Theatre will bear his name
at the University of Warwick, United Kingdom.
A small gathering assembled at the Demerara Bank, Camp Street location as the work of Persaud was highlighted through the many presentations made by numerous spokespersons.
Among those in attendance were Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan, Director of Demerara Bank Limited, Sheila George, and several Ministers and former Ministers.
George described the achievement as an accolade for Guyana and vocalized her great admiration for Persaud as he continuously makes efforts towards development.
Dr. Persaud shared his story of humble beginnings. He told how he left the shores of Guyana with the intent of not only becoming qualified as an accountant, but as a manufacturer and every other thing imaginable.
He said, “My hard work, dedication, determination and perseverance,” were just a few ingredients he needed for his success.
He noted that while some of the major companies are highlighted for its efforts in development, there are several ‘small things’ that are being done.
Minister Ramjattan while addressing the audience said the honour of naming the lecture theatre after Dr. Persaud comes significantly at a time where the 230th anniversary for the establishment of the committee for the abolition of slavery.
