The Guyana Cancer Foundation (GCF) yesterday kicked off the month of Breast Cancer Awareness activities with their annual tree wrapping exercise.
The event was a collaborative effort between the GCF, the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GTT) and a host of other governmental and non-governmental agencies.
The exercise, which commenced at 16:30 hrs at the corners of Camp and Lamaha Streets, yesterday; moved along to Church Street. It was spearheaded by GCF’s Founder, Bibi Hassan.
The event was attended by members of the Guyana Police Force, staff of GTT, Qualfon Guyana, staff of the Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC), Ministry of Education, the Female Guyana National Football Team, the Lady Jags and members of the public.
City Mayor, Patricia Chase- Green was among those who participated in the cancer awareness activity.
During her brief remarks about the event, the founder explained that GCF’s awareness activities are receiving support from a number of organisations. She said that this year, GTT is a major sponsor of the event.
In addition to raising awareness for Breast Cancer, Hassan noted that GTT is also seeking to raise funds for the foundation.
Hassan noted, too, the support of civil society, family and friends of those affected by Breast Cancer, is integral to beating the illness.
The telephone company had launched an event that seeks to promote awareness for persons affected by cancer and to raise funds for the Guyana Cancer Foundation through the inaugural Pinktober Special.
The Pinktober special is scheduled for this month. Customers are invited to purchase the ‘Pinktober Special’ at GT&T for just $2000, which entitles them to entry into the Guyana Cancer Foundation, a free one-week data plan, and training at the National Park for the Awareness Walk.
The special does not end there, since customers will also be given the opportunity to choose one of three tickets to attend any of the upcoming shows, which GT&T is sponsoring. It additionally provides over $500 to the Guyana Cancer Foundation.
Pinktober month also promises a Breast Cancer Awareness five K and 10K Walk to be held on October 21, 2017.
