As the month of Amerindian Heritage came to an end on Friday, the main laboratory staff at the
Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) was proud to take have taken part in the celebrations through a mini exhibition on Friday.
As part of its celebration, the laboratory staff was joined by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO); Brigadier (retired) George Lewis, and Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mitzy Campbell.
The staff dressed in their cultural wear and displayed some handicrafts made by talented locals. Officials from the hospital were even seen performing the cultural dance to Amerindian music.
This event is one which follows a similar activity that the institution observed in September 15, last.
On that day, the laboratory staff of the hospital participated in a breakfast of Tuma pot. Here they were even treated to the classic cassava bread and farine.
Indigenous Heritage Month was celebrated in the month of September across Guyana. This year it ws observed under the theme,’ Guyana’s first peoples; sustaining a rich cultural environment’.
Several activities were observed over the past month.
The Regional Heritage celebration in St Ignatius, Region Nine was one of the many occasions celebrated under the month long activities.
There was also a pageant, several exhibitions, tours and heritages that were organized, along with other activities, by the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs to celebrate the achievements, culture and lives of the Indigenous people.
