Dear Editor,
Ok Freddie, your Sunday’s edition was digested as you condoned the behaviour of Ms. Garrett. Yes, there are words that we don’t use in our society when we are among people of different circles and you know just as well as others including myself, had an East Indian Guyanese used the term ‘Blackman’ in the same circle would you have made your critique vocal – guess not.
It’s not the behaviour you dispensed in any environment or forum where they are people of all categories. It just depicts your taste as well as those who used it. Is this how you expect a nation to develop by calling them names? We have many more important issues to deal with living in Guyana day to day and you just add another one. Would the ‘N’ word ever be used in any Western nation in public places and don’t get the attention or a fight in the judicial system? No, will never happen, and you know it. Mind your tongue. Yes, you do compare Guyana with the North America we know today and yesterday. Good for you!
I’ve read so much of your criticism of the Guyanese society and here you agreed upon an obnoxious behaviour. How come you don’t call a spade a spade? Are you somewhat afraid you’re going lose your friendship with the black man? Say who you are, be proud of who you are and speak up against the values and principles you claim you uphold as a good and caring citizen of a faltered society and nation with no moral concepts.
Indians, like me, will certainly agree this is not the way you address us and we are not going to sit easy with it. There will be no COI. That, I can say much of! Had it been the other way around, certainly the monster would have raised its ugly head. Guess it’s OK to address the Preze as ‘da old Blackman’? What’s good for the goose must be good for the gander. Something to digest Freddie!
