One match is being contested in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s 1st Division 2-day tournament sponsored by GISE, Star Party Rental & Trophy Stall this weekend, that match is between University of Guyana and GNIC Cricket Club at the Malteenoes Sports Club ground.
Yesterday was the first day of the match which was delayed by 3 hours due to rain.
Ronale Bourne scored a top knock of 84 runs which was the backbone of GNIC’s 156 tally.
Bourne had much luck in his innings but wasn’t lucky enough to reach a three- figure score; he utilized all his good fortune after being dropped 3 times including a sitter off the bowling of Michael Shalim by UG’s wicketkeeper Devon George when he was on 66.
GNIC were cruising on 115-2 after lunch before UG’s keeper, George, redeemed his drop catch by running out Stephon Campbell who had shared in a 106-run partnership with Bourne to spark a collapse after an initial recovery from 9-2 early on.
After GNIC’s 156-9 declaration, at the close of play at Malteenoes, UG were 18-1, having lost opener, Melroy Stephenson for 4 runs, bowled by Deswin Butts.
