Football fans on the East Coast of Demerara are in for a treat as the Hamilton Green Cup, knockout football tournament is sure to provide action this weekend with the initial round of 16 clashes at the Victoria community ground on Sunday.
Three matches will be played from 17:00hrs and the East Coast teams involved will look to capitalize on home support.
The first game will pit city side Western Tigers that recently finished third in the Corona Invitational football tournament Sunday last against East Bank’s Soesdyke Falcons. East Coast’s Mahaica Determinators will match skills with Riddim Squad of Georgetown at 19:00hrs.
The feature clash, which begins at 21:00hrs, will be an all East Coast match up when Ann’s Grove and Buxton will go all out to retain their place in the tournament and move one step closer to the $500,000 first prize.
The latest winners in the competition, which began with 24 teams, saw Linden based Winners Connection and Milerock both utilizing home crowd support to win at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground last week.
Winners Connection whipped Kuru Kururu 4-0, while Milerock ousted East Coast based Plaisance FC 3-0 from the tournament.
