A miner on Monday made an appearance before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a charge of escaping lawful custody.
Twenty-four-year-old Cleveland King of Soesdyke/Linden Highway denied the charge which alleged that on August 17 at Kuru Kururu Police Outpost, while being a prisoner in lawful custody, on a criminal charge of engaging or facilitating in a child sex offence, he escaped lawful custody.
Police Prosecutor Adunni Inniss objected to bail being granted to the defendant citing the serious nature of the offence and the fact that if bail is granted to the defendant he would not return to court for the trial.
Facts presented by the prosecutor stated that on the day in question the defendant, while being at the Outpost in connection to a criminal charge, walked out of the police outpost without permission.
The prosecution’s objection was upheld by the magistrate and the defendant was remanded to prison.
The father of one will make his next court appearance on August 28.
