—another released on $350,000 bail
A fisherman was on Tuesday jailed for three years by Magistrate Sunil Scarce after admitting
to stealing a quantity of fibre optic cable valued $1,394,444 from the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT).
Sanjay Seecharran, 24, of 14 Grove, East Bank Demerara, pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that between July 22 and 24, 2017 at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, he stole the items, which are the property of GTT.
Yesterday, Ricky Singh, 22, also a fisherman, of Grove, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh and pleaded not guilty to the said charge.
The unrepresented man was released on $350,000 bail.
Police Prosecutor Gillian Simmons was not opposed to Singh being granted pre-trial liberty.
Simmons, however, asked that Singh report to the Timehri Police Station until the outcome of the matter. He was ordered by Magistrate Annette Singh to return to court on August 25, 2017 to collect statements. Both men appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
