A welder was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge of attempted murder. Osafo Swain,
23, of Lot 29 Hadfield Street, Georgetown appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
The charge alleged that on July 26, last, in the Georgetown Magisterial District, he discharged a loaded firearm at Hubert Blair, with intent to commit murder.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore objected to bail being granted to the accused citing the fact that the victim is still hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The Prosecutor cited the nature of the offense and the penalty the charge attracts.
The court heard that the victim and Swain are known to each other for over five years. Swain was positively identified as the shooter, by Blair. Prosecutor Moore also told the court that if the accused is released on bail he will tamper with the witnesses in the matter and might not return to court for the trial.
The prosecutor further disclosed that detectives are still trying to recover the gun that was use in the shooting incident.
The accused will make his next court appearance on August 18 for report.
