After managing to keep a low profile for two days, prison escapee Kendall Skeete was nabbed yesterday, hiding in the abandoned home of one of his relatives at Wisrock, Wismar, Linden.
The murder accused reportedly broke a padlock on the door and entered the property early yesterday. He was held at 11:15 hrs after police received information from alert residents in the community.
Kaieteur News was informed that Skeete did not try to escape or put up a fight—he complied with the police and is said to be assisting in the investigation.
He was brought to Georgetown yesterday afternoon.
Skeete was among 13 prisoners who dug their way out of the Lusignan Prison Holding area sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning.
In 2008, an arrest warrant was issued for Skeete in connection with the murder of Kenneth Allen.
Allen was stabbed to death, allegedly by Skeete, during an ill-fated rescue attempt at Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara.
The victim sustained several stab wounds while attempting to stop a group of men from assaulting and robbing another man in the area but the attackers turned on him. It was Skeete who was alleged to have killed Allen—he was subsequently charged.
Of the 13 inmates who escaped from the Lusignan Prison, seven were nabbed and subsequently charged with escaping from lawful custody. Those charged yesterday were Winston Long, Jamal Forde, Jamal Joseph, Teshawn McKenzie, Odel Roberts, Jason Howard and Ryan Jones.
The police are stilling hunting for Paul Goriah, Shawn Harris, Kerry Cromwell, Clive Forde and Pascal Smith, all of whom escaped from the Lusignan facility.
Additionally, Mark Royden Durant, Stafrei Alexander, Uree Varswyck and Cobena Stephens are wanted for escaping from the Camp Street Prison on July 09, last.
