The Guyana Police Force (GPF) yesterday issued a wanted bulletin for 18-year-old Marlon Jeffrey also known as “Melvor Jeffrey” and “Buck.”
Jeffrey is wanted for escaping from lawful custody on Wednesday morning from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was nursing a gunshot wound to the back after being shot by police ranks last Monday.
He was held for possession of a firearm and ammunition and two counts of discharging a gun. The Agricola, East Bank Demerara resident is of mixed race.
Yesterday, the escapee’s mother, Peggy Jeffrey maintained that her son is not a criminal and believes that the police hid him away to cover their tracks.
The woman claimed that she has no idea where her son is, and she is concerned, since she was informed that his injuries can be fatal.
Around 02:00 hrs on Wednesday, the teenaged suspected bandit escaped from the GPHC, ditching a red dress, wig and a bra which someone had taken for him to disguise.
It is suspected that the young man was planning to escape from the hospital dressed as a woman, but when he noticed that the police rank guarding him was not around, he made a run for it.
Someone had taken a red evening gown, a yellow brassiere, a wig and a baby diaper to shred and stuff in the brassiere to make him appear to be a woman.
“Maybe when he see the police had gone and everyone was sleeping, he just run and leave the dress and wig behind, because it would have taken too long for him to get dressed,” a police source opined.
The errant policeman is still under close arrest. Reports are that he (policeman) had been sleeping in another ward when the shot suspect escaped.
According to reports, Jeffrey removed a tube that was inserted in his back and escaped—leaving drops of blood on the floor as he made his way out.
It is unclear when the rank on duty was made aware that the prisoner had escaped but reports are that when ranks went to the hospital to investigate, they found that the keys were in the handcuffs.
Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Marlon Jeffrey aka “Melvor Jeffrey” called “Buck,” is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 225-6411, 225-8196, 225-2227, 227-1149, 226-7065, 911 or the nearest police station.
