The smallest Township in Guyana from the 19th August, to the 20th September, 2017 would be a hive of activities as residents celebrate the 175th Anniversary of Rose Hall Village, bought by 57 (fifty seven) free slaves in 1842, Guyana’s most dynamic youth and sports organisation, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, MS, and its eight cricket teams would be the organisers of the historic anniversary celebration.
The Club has officially launched the Logo for the month long celebration. The logo features the Rose Hall Monument with the names of the 57 (fifty seven) slaves along with the Theme of the 175th Anniversary “Celebrating the legacy and vision of our founding Fathers”.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, who is spearheading the anniversary celebration, disclosed that full coloured copies of the Logo would be placed across the Township, while decoration would also be done using the five colours of the Guyana flag. Last year, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, hosted a highly successful 46th Anniversary of Rose Hall attaining the status of township and Foster stated that is was widely described as the best ever Town Week in the history of Guyana.
The members of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club are very proud to be associated with the small township and as such have pledged to promote Rose Hall Town as much as possible. The programme for the 175th Anniversary has been completed by the five member planning committee and consists of the following:
Saturday 19th August – Religious Service/Lighting up of Arch Square
Sunday 20th August – Cross Country Race
Wednesday 23rd August – Feeding of the Poor
Friday 25th August – School bags/Exercise books Programme
Sunday 27th August – Football Tournament
Monday 28th August – Commissioning of Community Projects
Saturday 2nd September – Evening of Music and Dance Competition
Thursday 8th September – Medical Outreach
Tuesday 12th September – Career and Business Fair
Thursday 14th September – Parade and Grand Ceremony
Friday 15th September – Educational Competitions (Spelling Bee and Art)
Sunday 17th September – Day of Sports
Monday 18th September – Inter Secondary School Tapeball Competition
Tuesday 19th September – Inter Secondary School Cricket Competition
Wednesday 20th September – Berbice Teachers of the Year Programme and Closing Ceremony. The eight cricket teams – Farfan and Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Metro Females, Gizmos & Gadgets Under-21 and First Division are appealing to every resident of Rose Hall Town to be involved in the month long celebrations. The teams also announced that they would be publishing a full coloured Tourism Guide to Rose Hall Town, Anniversary Magazine, while the Guyana Chronicle also be doing a pull out segment in one of its daily newspaper on the township, while the club would also be involved in the production of a one hour Television Documentary on the Development of Rose Hall Village over the last 175 years.
