A 55-year-old security guard of Laing Avenue, Georgetown yesterday made an appearance before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.
Paula Gill pleaded guilty to the charge which alleged that on June 15 at Charlestown Secondary School she assaulted Samantha Latchman so as to cause her actual bodily harm.
Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves told the court that the Latchman and Gill are known to each other since they both work at the Charlestown Secondary School as security guards.
The Prosecutor said that on the day in question Gill told Latchman to clean the guard hut but the woman refused.
The court heard that an argument ensued and Gill and Latchman had a scuffle during which Gill dealt the woman several blows to her face, causing it to become swollen.
The matter was then reported and Gill was arrested and charged.
When given a chance to address the court, Gill stated that on the day in question she told Latchman to clean the guard hut. She said that the woman she held on to her shirt and she defended herself by hitting her.
Based on her explanation the magistrate recorded a not guilty plea.
Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves had no objection to bail being granted to the defendant and she was placed on bail in the sum of $60,000.
She will make her next court appearance on June 26.
