A man who police say stole $150,000 from his employer while he was sent for drinking water in the man’s house, was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman, charged with simple larceny.
Ray Reid, 39, a father of one, of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on June 11 at 111 Miles Mahdia, Potaro River, he stole the money which belonged to Parsram (only name given).
The unrepresented man was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 and instructed to make another court appearance on June 30, when he will appear before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
According to Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves, the defendant is employed by Parsram who is the owner of several dredges. Prosecutor Gonsalves said that on the day in question, the victim left the money on a table in his home and went downstairs to consult with his General Manager.
Reid later went to the home and requested to have some drinking water and was given permission to go upstairs for the water. The prosecutor related that when Parsram went upstairs to his home he noticed Reid running and later discovered that his money was missing. He contacted the police. Eventually, Reid took his employer to a gas station where $39,000 was recovered from an old engine.
