A nurse heading home after a tough day at work was forced to plunge into a trench for safety after police ranks in a mobile patrol and occupants in a car traded bullets on Friday night at Victor Street, Lodge.
Kaieteur News understands that while doing patrol duties around 20:00 hours, ranks spotted the occupants in the vehicle acting in a suspicious manner.
When they attempted to intercept the vehicle, the car sped away. The ranks allegedly caught up with the vehicle on Victor Street, Lodge.
It was there that one of the men reportedly got out of the vehicle and opened fire at the ranks, forcing them to retaliate.
At the end of the shootout, one suspect was apprehended while his accomplices managed to escape.
No one was injured. The nurse was subsequently pulled from the trench by police ranks.
