A 47-year-old farmer was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge of possession of narcotics
for the purpose of trafficking.
Shem John of 147 Swan Soesdyke/Linden Highway, denied the charge which alleged that on June 7 at the same address, he had in his possession 20 grams of Cannabis sativa for the purpose of trafficking.
Police prosecutor Preston John told the court that on the day in question a party of police officers went to John’s residence, where they observed him running to the back of the house and throwing a bag in the bushes.
The bag was retrieved and found to contain a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems of the Cannabis plant. John was then informed of the offence, arrested and later charged. He will return to court on June 23.
