An argument between a couple ended tragically after a 55- year old woman stabbed herself once to the abdomen following a heated argument with her husband at their Crabwood Creek home.
Dead is Charmoney Charlie, also known as “Pillow”, of Grant 1803 Crabwood Creek.
Relatives of the dead woman are claiming that the woman could have been saved if doctors at the Skeldon Hospital had tended to her on her first visit to the institution.
The dead woman’s sister- in- law Tamini Lakhraj who lives a stone’s throw away told reporters that around 11 pm last Friday, Charlie ran over to her house and informed her that she had stabbed herself. She stated that she insisted that the woman visit the hospital for medical treatment since they were not aware of the extent of the wound inflicted. The woman refused to go at that said moment. She eventually went the following day with her relatives.
She said that when they arrived at the hospital, Charlie met with the doctor. “It just had one doctor; he lift up she shirt and watch the cut and he give she an injection and tablet and send she home. He give she a paper to collect more tablet on Monday”.
The woman subsequently succumbed to her untreated stab wound early Monday morning. “Me brother (Charlie’s husband) been a work and by rain fall he had to come home back and when he come he say he see she fall down next to the cupboard. He start holla fa me go and then we see she dead and lef deh,” Lakhraj said.
It is her firm belief that if the doctors had informed them of the extent of the injury they would have taken steps to have the injured woman taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital instead. “But them na tell we nothing; them just give she injection and tablet and send she home.”
Lakhraj explained that Charlie and her husband would have frequent arguments because of her “drinking problem”. Her husband would usually plead with her to stop what she was doing but his pleas fell on deaf ears.
Charlie’s husband, Rishee Lakhraj, 62, of Lot 1803 Grant Crabwood Creek, is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
A post mortem examination will be conducted shortly to determine the actual cause of death since relatives are claiming that the woman died of internal bleeding.
