Agricola Champion Boys came from behind Sunday at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary in the final of the Boyce and Jefford Five-A-Side Football Competition to eventually beat Broad Street Ballers on penalty kicks.
Broad Street Ballers scored in the first half of the 20-minute game before Agricola equalised in the last minute of the second half to ensure the game finished on a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time. Agricola triumphed 3-2 on penalty kicks.
As a result the East Bank-based team took home $50,000 and winning trophy, while Broad Street won $25,000 for their second place finish along with trophy. Better Hope Kanaimas and Show Stoppers were the other two teams in the tournament.
The 2017 Boyce and Jefford Relay Festival and Family Fun Day on Sunday featured the Five-A-Side football competition, cycling, male and female softball cricket and dominoes apart from the relay race in athletics.
The National Sports Commission, Ansa McAl under its Lucozade and Stag brands, Ministry of Social Cohesion, C. Mohan Contracting Guyana Inc., R&D Engineering Services, K&B Mining and Insurance Brokers Guyana Ltd. were among the main sponsors of the event.
