An ex-policeman who was interdicted in an alleged cocaine deal was among the four men who were intercepted last week in a car with an unlicensed firearm, 13 live rounds, a wig, a rope, a crowbar along with other items.
Divisional Commander Ian Amsterdam has confirmed that the ex-cop is Trevon Mckenzie of Princeton, Berbice. Mckenzie was interdicted from the Guyana Police Force a few years ago, after he reportedly let a known drug dealer pass free with his vehicle loaded with cocaine.
The accused and three other ranks were charged with corruptly obtaining $6M from the drug dealer.
According to Amsterdam, “because of the multiple occupants we have to do more detailed interviews, hence them being charged later on in the week”.
He disclosed that the men were reportedly en route to execute a robbery; investigators were told that the men were seen circling the perimeter at a particular part in Glasgow Village in vehicle PNN 7770.
A source close to the investigation revealed that the ex-cop Trevon Mckenzie, who was a Constable in the force was the driver of PNN 7770 when the car was intercepted. The source also stated that two of the suspects upon seeing the ranks on the mobile patrol escaped on foot but were apprehended.
A release issued on Saturday stated that the men were intercepted at Glasgow Village and after a search of the vehicle they were in, the illegal items were discovered. The men aged 33, 29, 27, 26 and 22 hail from Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice, Angoys Avenue, New Amsterdam, Pilot Street, Fort Ordinance, East Canje and Dazzle Housing Scheme respectively. The items found in the search were lodged along with the vehicle at the Central Police Station.
