Two hundred and sixty young Guyanese are the newest additions to the troop strength of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), following their successful completion of the Basic Recruit Course 2017-01.
According to the army, the new Privates were on show Thursday at the Colonel John Clarke Military School (CJCMS) at Tacama, Region Ten, when they put on a parade which marked their “passing out”.
The group of newly-enlisted soldiers comprises 205 males and 55 females.
“Chief of Staff, Brigadier Patrick West, took the salute during the parade, as the new troops marched past in slow and quick time. Afterward, he delivered several charges, which were indicative of his and the force’s expectations of them. The charges were also meant to serve as guidelines regarding their conduct while serving as military personnel and developing their careers.”
Students and teachers from the St. Thomas, Calcuni, and Mount Caramel Primary Schools, were also present to witness the parade. Many had traveled from as far away as Aroaima on the Berbice River.
According to the army, Private Troy Miggins, who hails from Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara, graduated as the Best Student award, when he successfully completed the Basic Recruit Course.
