Fourteen children were yesterday morning injured after a minibus slammed into
their school bus which was parked along the Rising Sun, West Coast Berbice Public Road.
While most of the children were treated at the Fort Wellington and Mahaicony Hospitals respectively, at least six of them had to have been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) with more serious injuries.
Those who were rushed to the city were three-year-old Fastasia Saul, Adn Joseph, Lornel Marks, Ronayah Glasgow and Malacai Duncan – all five years old, along with Enrique Lewis, nine.
It has been confirmed that all six of the children are in stable conditions.
Little Ronayah Glasgow however, is said to be in a more serious condition, with injuries to the head.
A total of 29 persons were injured – 15 adults included.
Reports are that around 08:00hrs yesterday, a minibus heading west, attempted to overtake another minibus heading in the same direction.
“The minibus attempting to overtake came into contact with the front right side of the vehicle being overtaken. The impact caused the overtaking minibus to topple onto its side. It skidded and came into contact with the parked school bus. The school bus with children in it, also topple and skid off the parapet,” a police official explained.
