West Front Road ‘Gold is Money’ confirmed participation in the 2nd Annual Boyce & Jefford Ralay Festival & Family Fun Day which will be staged on Sunday, at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.
Captain of the team Hubert Pedro when contacted by Kaieteur Sport via telephone yesterday established their willingness to participate in the event, adding that they will be fielding a very strong unit for the 5-a-side competition.
According to Pedro among the players expected to be part of the line-up are Randolph Wagner, Michael Oie, Carl Tudor, Jamal Pedro and Roy Cassou and they form a formidable unit that could beat any team on their day.
Cassou has been one of the most prolific scorers in the shorter version of the sport and along with the experience of Hubert Pedro, Oie and Wagner they could go all the way to the final.
However, they will be mindful of the enormous challenge they face against the other invited teams like Sparta Boss, Agricola Champion Boys, Bent Street, Back Circle and Broad Street Bullies.
Meanwhile, even though the other two invited teams Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Defence Force are newcomers to this format, they possess players who’ve played for their respective communities in other such competitions and are very familiar with the style of play required and the rules so do not count them out just yet.
Up for grabs will be $50,000 for the winners, while the runners-up receive $25,000.
Just to add some more excitement to the day’s proceedings will be the return clash between Milo champions Chase Academy and beaten finalist Morgan’s Learning Centre.
These two teams have large bands of supporters and whenever they clash the on-field rivalry resembles that of the Spanish La Liga ‘El Clasico’ that features Barcelona and Real Madrid.
