A father of five became the third motorcyclist to die in an accident in two days. He collided with a mini-bus on the Rupert Craig Highway, East Coast Demerara yesterday.
Christopher Singh, a 62-year-old security guard of Industry, East Coast Demerara, succumbed around 07.00 hrs at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
The accident occurred around 06.50 hrs, in the vicinity of the University of Guyana access road.
Police said that the minibus driver alleged that he was heading east along the Rupert Craig Highway, when Singh, who was on a motorcycle, suddenly turned from the UG access road into the path of the bus.
Singh, who sustained severe head injuries, was rushed to the GPHC Emergency Unit, where he succumbed.
His wife, Basmattie Singh, said that he was heading home from his Kitty workplace when the accident occurred.
Mrs. Singh said that she received a call from her son, who told her that “daddy get in an accident.”
She rushed down to the GPHC where she was told that her husband had died.
The minibus driver has been detained.
Two other motorcyclists perished in almost similar fashion on Wednesday.
Troy Cordwell, 40, a father of two, was proceeding north on the McDoom, East Bank Demerara Public Road around 01:00 hrs when he allegedly lost control of his cycle and crashed into a parked vehicle.
Cordwell was pronounced dead on arrival at the GPHC.
And around 01.30 hrs on Wednesday, 22-year-old GPL technician Ackeem James lost his life after crashing his motorcycle into a lorry on the Reliance Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
The only savior of Guyana.
