Simona T. Broomes waxes lyrical about Minister Harmon

Dear Editor,
Often times we forget that with newness, a metamorphosis follows. Metamorphosis: a cycle that transforms a caterpillar into a butterfly. My obsession with butterflies travels way beneath the surface of its beauty into the depths of comparable morals. It is this system that lends itself to my description of our current government and more specifically, Member of Parliament and Minister of State, Mr. Joseph Harmon.
Minister Harmon, in his transitional state, has been the subject of much inveterate scrutiny, but the smattering must not be viewed as conclusive. I wish to hypothesize that the minister is currently like a chrysalis; this is the third cycle in the development of a butterfly. It is this stage that the delicate creature undergoes most of its transformation into the representation we most admire. Outwardly, Minister Harmon may approach many matters seemingly dormant or restful, but is in fact working diligently to establish beneficial and permanent change without avarice.
It is with this knowledge that I acknowledge Minister Harmon’s good work. Sometimes it is more difficult to see when you are standing close up…when you are scrutinizing. Sometimes we give praise, worthy though it is when it cannot be received. With my lens-corrected, and long-distanced vision, I can clearly see the minister’s strides toward a better Guyana, and consequently, extend heartfelt gratitude as a citizen, bid him congratulations, and task him with continuance (in my reluctance to compliment him when he cannot hear it).To Minister Harmon: Although you are not yet a butterfly, I can see the colour of the wings you will produce. Again, keep up the good work.
