Dear Editor,
Please publish this letter which is in support of my old school mate. Mr. Hubert (Monty) Cramer-Seon, now 73 years of age; who worked his prime years with this large logging company only to be denied his NIS benefits through incompetent or compromised officials of NIS.
NIS is in receipt of indisputable official information from the logging company stating that Cramer-Seon was employed for 19 years (988 contributions) along with pay slips showing that NIS and PAYE deductions were made on his behalf. What else does NIS wants?
I have followed this subject through the media and read a press release from the Public Relations Officer of NIS stating that enquiries are being conducted re: Cramer-Seon’s record of employment with Willems Timber, a company Cramer never worked with post 1969. And which is non-operational for over fifteen years. Is this PRO real? Or in a hallucinatory state?
Mr. Editor it is only in Guyana, employers can deduct taxes from employees on behalf of government agencies and convert same to their own use and are free from prosecution. The post and pre election rhetoric – “if you do the crime you must do the time” is only for the poor and powerless. It is evident that our ministerial officials are aware of this subject but somehow have failed to quiz NIS on Cramer-Seon’s behalf. Mr. Cramer-Seon I urge you to continue your struggle against NIS and despite the odds, by God’s help you will prevail.
