Guyana was second best over the past three days in the Teams’ and Doubles Competition with a number of silver medals at the Caribbean Cadet and Junior Table Tennis Championships, which continues today at the Cliff
Anderson Sports Hall.
In the Doubles Competition, Guyana’s Under-18 Girls played good enough tennis throughout the competition for second place behind the dominant table tennis-playing nation of The Dominican Republic, which is mopping up everything.
Priscilla Greaves and Jamaali Homer fell 3-0 to the duo of Cinthia Sanchez and Esmerlyn Castro from The Dominican Republic. Guyana’s U-15 Boys, Jamal Nickolus and Terrence Rausch also captured a silver medal when they lost to Barbadians, Ramon Maxwell and Reshon Goddard.
The Guyanese boys looked well on stream for the country’s first title after winning their first set 11-9, however, the Guyanese let the game slide when they surrendered the next three sets to gift-wrap the title for the ‘Bajans’.
In the teams’ competition, Guyana served up a silver medal in the Girls’ Under-15 category after they finished on three points, while the Dominican Republic took gold after finishing on four points and Jamaica third on two points.
The Boys’ U-15 team that featured Kaysan Ninvalle finished with a bronze medal after defeating
Jamaica 3-1 in the third place play-off.
The Dominican Republic has dominated the Championships, winning gold medals in all the team events, which includes the U-18 Boys and Girls and the Under-15 Boys and Girls. The top tennis playing nation also won gold and silver medals in the Girls’ U-15 Doubles, while they also claimed gold and silver in the U-15 Mixed Doubles.
The tournament continues today.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
