– appeals to drivers to slow down
Region Ten Councillor Dexter Harding, with responsibility for Coomacka, Three Friends and Old England, has expressed satisfaction with the rehabilitation works that were recently carried out on the main thoroughfare to these mining communities.
“I must commend the Government and the contractor, because he really lived up to expectations and he even went past the contract stipulation, to assist the community with an extra portion of road. He also provided some material for the ball field and so on. We’re really pleased, because they also did a turning sign to indicate where motorists should turn.
So far the road is really living up to our expectations.”
The works were carried out after mini bus operators suspended their services almost two months ago, because of the atrocious condition of the road.
Operations were not resumed until the drivers were satisfied that work on the road had commenced and was progressing according to plan.
However what is now worrying, Harding said, is the speed with which bus operators are presently driving at.
“I would like to plead with the bus drivers to be cautious and slow down as they proceed into these communities, especially around the school area, because they can hit down a child or worse.
Harding also expressed concern about the clouds of dust that rise up around the Health Centre and nearby Coomacka Primary School whenever the buses pass by.
“We really have to find a solution to this dust problem, because it is really terrible, the dust is everywhere in the schools, the health centers and even residents’ homes.’
Councillor Harding posited that a short term solution might be to have water sprinkled on the road on a regular basis.
