Champion Driver to walk away with 1 Million
Undisputed Bartica Regatta Speedboat Racing Champion Dave Scott will be seeking his sixth
consecutive champion title in the open category while Jose Jardine will be going after his fourth when the 2017 edition of Bartica Regatta opens today.
Scott signaled his intention of making it six in a row in an interview when he disclosed that his boat, dubbed ‘Jaguar’ enters the water this morning, all he will be seeking to do is to win in every race.
He informed that he is unfazed by those that are seeking to break his hold on the championship trophy this year. “There is only one thing on my mind and that is to defend my title successfully regardless of who my opposition are as I have a mission to accomplish and believe me I will endeavor to accomplish it,” he declared.
Jardine, who again would be battling in the 200 horsepower category noted that he wants to continue ruling this category. Scott and Jardine who have established themselves as two of the top speedboat racers in expressed the view that they have been doing their rounds in terms of getting their skills further sharpened through aggressive training.
Both men expressed the view that that they are excited by the passion and determination of their competitors noting that it has served to fuel their desires to be successful. Examining the races, both men pointed out that twenty-two races will be contested over the two days.
They disclosed that day one will see twelve races being contested while day two will have the
renaming ten races. However, Scott pointed out that he will be competing in the six open races while Jardine will power up for four of the 200 horsepower races.
”I will be competing in the smaller category which is the 200 horsepower races with a smaller boat,” Jardine revealed. Scott said that he is excited by the Champion Driver’s prize purse this year noting that one million dollars will be given to the champion racer which he disclosed is jointly sponsored by Sir Service Station and BK International.The other sponsors of the races are Banks DIH, DDL, Ricky Ramnarine, Aruwai Resort, Digicel and Kadir Mohamed Enterprise.
Expressing confidence of winning for yet another year, Jardine said that he knows that he will be forced to bring his A game as he will be faced with stiff competition from some of the big names, among those that will be going after the title also are Neil Gonsalves, Clarence Bell and Selwin Joseph.
Meanwhile, in the smaller category Jardine will be hard pressed to retain his title that he won last year as he will be competing against the likes of Dave Young, Raymond Russel and Clint Gonsalves.
Jardine stressed that his dominance of the smaller category will continue this year adding that spectators are assured of a major showdown of skills, speed and talent. He revealed that his race strategy continues to work very well. “I just don’t come out and race, I have a strategy which I work on every year as this helps me to stay ahead of the pack and with great execution I am able to come out victorious,” he asserted.
The first race is expected to get going at 10 am this morning.
