Nine year-old Paige Mendonca, who is being sponsored by Sueria Manufacturing, importers of Mogu Mogu Juices, is plotting revenge against her opponents when they come face to face in tomorrow’s Georgetown Grand Prix whch is being organised by GT Motorsports, at the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club on Albert Street.
The precocious young karter, who has racing in her genes, being the daughter of outstanding Superbike racer now turned karter Carlos Mendonca, participated in the inaugural event, gaining creditable results.
Mendonca, who campaigns in the 60cc Class got a second and a third place and in an interview with Kaieteur Sport on Tuesday evening at the GMR&SC, said she is hoping to do much better come tomorrow.
According to the young speedster, “I started karting in January and for me to get those results I think it is not too bad.”
She said since then she has been mixing studies with practice, especially at weekends and she is much more confident and comfortable and hopes to do much better this time around.
Among her opponents are Jeremy Ten Pow, who was voted champion of the category and Nathan Rahaman and if what she said was to be taken seriously they will have their work cut out.
Asked whether she enjoys karting, the confident sounding racer said she was and credited her dad for introducing her to the sport, one that she loves dearly.
Also a very good rider, Mendonca when asked which one she prefers said she struggles to identify the one she loves most, but will be sticking to karting for the time.
However, one of areas she would like to see improved, is the participation of more girls and implored on them to not be intimidated by the large presence of boys.
Look out for the exciting young karter as she attempts to turn the tide on her rivals tomorrow.
Mendonca listed Ricks & Sari Products and Axe Apparel as her other sponsors.
Meanwhile, a representative of the main sponsor Sueria Manufacturing in a brief copmment said that the entity was happy to be on board, especially with assisting young sportsmen and women to help them realise their potential.
Kaieteur Sport wishes her the best of luck.
