Both defending champion Bent Street and nemesis Sparta Boss, who lost in the final
last year, will face stiff opposition when quarter-final action of this year’s Petra Organisation / GT Beer Futsal Competition is played tonight, at the National Gymnasium.
The champs square off against a strong and confident West Front Road side that has been in terrific form from the onset of the tournament, before going down to Tucville in nothing more than a game of little consequence to them.
However, a loss could sometimes break momentum and their supporters will be hoping that that is not the case come this evening when they go up against a team that has looked more and more impressive as the tournament progressed.
The star-studded Bent Street line-up includes Colin Nelson, Joshua Browne, Konata Manning, O’Kenie Fraser and Dwight Peters and this grouping is perhaps the most potent on paper.
Hubert Pedro, Carl Tudor, Jamal Pedro and Roy Cassou make a strong line-up for West Front Road so it will be an interesting affair and one not to miss.
Sparta Boss have dominated the small-goal version of the sport locally so whenever they play there is high expectation among fans, some who want to see them win and those who would like to see them lose, making the marriage a bit testy on occasions.
They’ve proven time after time that they have the fortitude of champions so any sign of intimidation will ultimately fail.
Gregory Richardson, Sheldon Shepherd, Devon Millington and Solomon Austin are among the top performers in this format and they bring quite a lot of experience that may prove too much for even the upstarted North East La Penitence unit.
Omallo Williams is the key to victory for North East La Penitence, but even a player of his class may find it difficult to breach the imposing Sparta Boss defence.
Romario Andrews, Calvin Moore and Shaquille Browne are the supporting cast.
Back Circle and Broad Street Bullies could be the game of the night so picking a winner in this clash is proving to be a mighty headache.
Back Circle has been the revelation of the tournament to date because no one expected such a display without the services of their inspirational leader Andy Duke.
They have been exceptionally good and the win against Sparta Boss must have given them even more self belief, so expect another solid performance.
The Gravesande brothers Jimmy and Rocky are undoubtedly the lynchpins of Broad Street attack, but Jamal Cozier, Keiron Solomon and Darren Benjamin are equally explosive going forward.
The Tucville versus Sophia affair is another blockbuster that is hard to identify a winner.
Sophia has looked in tip top form with Dwayne Lowe, Sheik Kamal, Shem Arthur controlling their destiny and this could be the scenario once again.
On the other hand, Tucville are a very experienced squad and their win against West Front Road could be the beginning of good things.
Jermin Junior, Dennis Edwards and Jahal Greaves are the key players in their line-up and they are projected to play leading roles.
The time for talking is over and now it’s time for action.
However, before the start of last eight action, two exhibition matches will be played featuring teams from taxi services Green Ice and Pretty Posse and Upper Level barber Shop versus GRA.
19:30 hrs Green Ice Taxi vs Pretty posse
20:15 hrs Upper level vs GRA
21:00 hrs Sophia vs Tucville
21:45 hrs West Front Road vs Bent Street
22:30 hrs Back Circle vs Broad Street Bullies
23:15 hrs Sparta Boss vs North East La Penitence
