The efforts of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS, to get youths to stay off drugs and alcohol received major boost when several Government Ministries and business entities on Friday last made contributions. The Club and its eight cricket teams – Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Metro Female, Gizmos & Gadgets Under-21 and First Division on an annual basis organises a massive and highly successful Say No/Say Yes Campaign that targets 60,000 youths in Berbice.
Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo and the Office of the Prime Minister donated a cartoon consisting of 24 trophies and several cricket medals, while Minister Winston Jordan and the Ministry of Finance made a financial donation to the Campaign. The Club also received financial contribution from the Guyana Geology and Mining Commission (GGMC), Caribbean Container Inc (CCI) and Bakewell.
The Cricket Teams of the Club also received a large donation of medical supplies for their first aid kit.
Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, Hilbert Foster disclosed that the trophies from the Office of the Prime Minister would be used to host every sporting and educational events which would promote the Say No/Say Yes messages, while Bakewell, Ministry of Finance and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission financial contributions were used to purchase another cartoon of trophies for the 27th Annual Award Ceremony.
The Management of Caribbean Container Inc under the leadership of CEO Patricia Bacchus also contributed financially towards the purchasing of two cricket bats for practice sessions by junior cricketers. The donation of the medical supplies from Mike’s Pharmacy would enable the club to treat any form of external injuries suffered by members during practice and matches.
The Club, Foster stated, would like to express profound gratitude to Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo, Finance Minister Winston Jordan, CCI CEO Patricia Bacchus, Bakewell Managing Director Rajin Ganga and the Commissioner General of the GGMC.
Meanwhile, the Management of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS, has announced that plans for the 27th Annual Award Ceremony are processing well in advance. A total of 74 club members, retired teachers, Teachers of the Year, outstanding Law Officers and members of the Lower Corentyne Secondary School Under-17 Cricket Team would be honoured. Fifteen outstanding Guyanese would also be honoured for their outstanding contribution to the development of Guyana.
The Club would also be unveiling a new programme in honour of its Patron His Excellency, President David Granger during the Awards Ceremony. Under the programme, which would be known as “The Patron’s Outreach Project”, two schools and two churches would receive a collection of items including computers, printers and microwave among others.
