The Major brothers were once again the chief architects along with Damion Thomas as Buxton Stars maintained their unbeaten record when the East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) Senior League continued yesterday at the Golden Grove Community Center ground.
The young and energetic side, whilst not looking as sharp as they did against Ann’s Grove one week earlier, were still effective enough to whip Bachelors Adventure Paradise Sports Club 3-0 on another windy and sunny Sunday afternoon.
Coming against the Atlantic breeze in the first 45 minutes of what should have been a double header but only one game was played, Buxton were under early pressure from the Bachelors Adventure side that put up encouraging early resistance but could not sustain same.
The opening match should have seen BV Triumph United taking on Plaisance but the former failed to show up to the venue, EDFA Secretary Gidel Austin informed that it was the third such occasion that the BV side has failed to show up and their continuity in the league does not look encouraging.
But all the focus was on the Buxton side who have been the hottest team to date in this 2016/17 League. Sending them ahead on 24 minutes was Damion Thomas with a beautifully taken free kick from about 35 yards out.
Bachelors Adventure Paradise goalkeeper Shemar Noel was booked by Referee Deon Feassel for handling the ball outside the area which resulted in the free kick being awarded. Thomas was accurate in his delivery of the kick as he directed the ball just over the outstretched hands of Noel to open the Buxtonians’ account.
While Bachelors Adventure looked good at times in midfield, they found it a monumental task to penetrate in the final third as Buxton Stars presented airtight defence. The advantage was doubled with four minutes to half time when Captain Jumali Major tapped in a cross at the last post in the 41st minute.
The second half saw a much more resilient performance from Bachelors Adventure but it was the same situation in the final third as they were rendered ineffective by the stout defence that Buxton served up.
Kofi Major, who let his brother scored in the win against Ann’s Grove one week earlier, again inked his name on the score sheet with his side’s third goal in the 55th minute of play. The score line could have been at least one goal more if Dallon Boston had converted a penalty in the closing minutes.
He had initially put the ball into the back of the nets but had to retake the kick due to an infringement on the part of custodian Noel. The retaken kick saw Boston placing the ball way over the crossbar and out of the ground.
The miss however did not matter too much as the platform for Buxton’s fourth win was already laid.
