A capacity crowd witnessed some enthralling action at the start of the round robin phase of this year’s Petra Organisation/GT Beer Futsal Competition on Tuesday night, at the National Gymnasium.
Defending champs Bent Street had to come from behind to stave off defeat against an inspired Broad Street Bullies unit, before their exciting matchup ended in a 2-2 stalemate, while last tournament’s losing finalist Sparta Boss were made to fight in their clash against Agricola Champion Boys with Devon Millington’s 20th minute strike separating the two teams.
In another bruising encounter, Tiger Bay had to summon all their skills and experience to avoid what would have been an embarrassing loss to a youthful Back Circle side that should have won.
It took a 30th minute strike from the skilful Deon Alfred for them to draw level just before the final whistle sounded and share the points.
The night opened with North East La Penitence, led by a brace from Omallo Willams, beating Tucville 2-0, while in the game that followed Sophia, who’ve looked rock solid so far in the competition, easily dispatching Albouystown 4-0.
