Twenty-four year-old Mark Anthony Chan, of 24 Port Kaituma, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, on Monday, to answer to the charge of illegal possession of a firearm.
The court heard that on February 15 at Four Mile, North West District, he had in his possession a 9mm pistol without being a licenced firearm holder.
The unrepresented miner pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by the Magistrate.
The court heard that police acting on information conducted a search on Chan and the weapon was discovered.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones said that the defendant has no prior conviction and did not object to bail being granted to him.
Bail was refused and Chan will make his next court appearance on May 9 at the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrates Court.
