Akeem Peters and Kerron Boston were on Friday evening announced the winners of
Roraima’s Wedding Expo ‘Race to the Altar’ at the end of a ceremony held at Roraima Duke Lodge, Kingston, Georgetown.
The couple was among six finalists vying for an all expense paid wedding package.
Roderick Grant and Kacy Dutson; Colwyn Boyle and Kittindie Pearson; Rajesh Chanderpaul and Romana Puran; Dale Thomas and Luriel Inniss; and Gregory Loo and Keisha Fraser, were the other contestants. Peters and Boston will be married on March 25, in the Victoria Hall of the Roraima Duke Lodge.
After several rounds of competition, on Friday evening, each couple displayed their affection through dramatic pieces, dance, and songs and poetry. The couples displayed great chemistry and reminded their partners why they fell in love with them. They all confessed that the competition challenged them mentally and physically.
Captain Gerry Gouveia said that some of the couples met each other via BlackBerry messenger (BBM); Pulse Mash Band; algebra class at the University of Guyana (UG) and even at a hang out spot in Tucville.
Gregory Loo and Keisha Fraser were last to hit the spotlight. She and her partner gyrated to Bashment in Town, a Soca song. Six years ago, they danced to this song on the Mash band.
Colwyn Boyle and Kittindie Pearson were cuddly and loving throughout the night.
They sang a karaoke version of ‘So lucky.’ They met on BBM.
Roderick Grant and Kacy Dutson recalled meeting each other in Cuba and as such sang a Spanish song. Dale Thomas and Luriel Inniss met at UG. In fact, he had always been late for the classes and frequently asked his now partner to assist him with revision.
The winning couple performed a skit which reflected their love life from the time they first met. During the dramatic piece the audience learnt that the couple overcame arguments, and that Kerron Boston turned down 49 marriage proposals from her partner.
Kerron Boston burst into tears and had to be consoled by her partner, after they were announced the winners. She said that winning the competition shows that God is real and she extended gratitude to everyone that played a part in their relationship.
The Annual Wedding Expo, which started in 2007, sees a number of large and small local businesses marketing themselves to their intended wedding patrons.
They not only plan the wedding, but also the engagement, honeymoon and even acquiring a home audience. It provides a platform for couples to plan their special day and to create a one of a kind celebration.
Race to the Altar is in its fifth year.
