Troy Marshall, 35, of Lot 265 ‘D’ Field Sophia, East Coast Demerara, who was charged with the offence
of inflicting grievous bodily harm on Belinda Williams on August 15, 2016 at ‘E’ Field Sophia, East Coast Demerara, was yesterday sentenced to six months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty.
Marshall was arrested on February 9 and placed before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul in the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court.
Williams is Marshall’s reputed wife. On the day in question about 3am the parties had an argument which resulted in the victim barring Marshall from entering the house. In the process he bit her hands three times and give her several slaps across her face.
Belinda Williams, after receiving the slaps pushed the accused and ran out of the house onto the road. The defendant ran behind her and pushed her into the trench.
Marshall then went into the trench behind her, held onto her neck and pushed her head under the water telling her he will bubble her, as he kept pushing her head into the trench.
A neighbour who saw what was transpiring went out and shouted on the accused telling him to stop what he was doing.
The victim then went to the Turkeyen Police Station and made a report. She later obtained a medical certificate. Marshall was arrested and later placed on station bail.
An arrest warrant had to be issued for him since he never showed up for court. The Police found him on February 9 and took him to court.
