The family of 52 year old Carlton Megan, who was almost beheaded in an explosion at B.M. Enterprises, Houston, East Bank Demerara over a week ago, is to receive compensation from the company.
According to the owner of B.M. Enterprises, Doodnauth Rasiawan, there will be a meeting with the man’s family today to discuss compensation.
When asked about a possible amount that he is prepared to offer the family, Rasiawan said that will be decided after he hears what offer they put forward. Further, Rasiawan said that his company took care of all the funeral expenses for Megan, who was cremated on Saturday.
According to Rasiawan, his business is not in operation at the moment, since investigations are ongoing by the Fire Service and an insurance company. The cause of the explosion is still not known.
In a massive explosion at the Houston-located establishment last week Monday, Carlton Megan, 52 a father of two was almost beheaded. Another man, Ukesh Persaud was injured. Megan was doing welding work on an ice-making machine’s compressor when the compressor exploded. The explosion ripped out the compressor’s crankshaft and Megan was flung some 30 feet from the top floor into the yard below.
Guyana Fire Service Divisional Commander Compton Sparman said that from what he was told, the men were repairing an ice making machine when the explosion occurred.
“They were looking after an ice box engine. They were welding and there was gas in the area and there was a semi-explosion that pelted him (Megan) off (the building) and broke his neck,” Sparman said.
