With the horseracing scenario in Guyana being unregulated at the moment, efforts continue to have the sports regularised as the government is being asked to play their part. The newly organised group of horseracing enthusiast led by Managing Director of the Nand Persaud Group of Companies, Mohindra Persaud, are pushing ahead with their plans to help revitalise the sport here.
The body is making every effort to put systems in place to have the sport better organised.
So far a number of meetings have been held and according to Persaud, soon meetings will be held with jockeys, trainers, owners, the various race tracks and the various sub committees that were once part of the now defunct Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA).
So far a number of race dates have been agreed upon with the functioning race tracks, while a number of others are still to be finalised.
The dates Sunday 3rd February, 14th April and the 29th September are to be finalised.
The Rising Sun Turf Club (RSTC) at Arima Park West Coast Berbice has been allocated dates on the 26th February, 28th May to be followed by meets on the 27th August, 01st October, 29thOctober and December 31st.
The Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) at Bush Lot Farm Corentyne has submitted dates for 19thMarch, May 14TH, August 1st, October 22nd and the traditional Boxing date meet on December 26.
The Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC) at Port Mourant Corentyne Berbice will see action in three days with April 13th, April 23th, and August 23rd the days being asked for.
The little known Budhan’s Memorial Sports Club on the Upper Corentyne has submitted dates for 19th March, the 23rd May, the 10th September and the 26thNovember.
The Bush Lot United Turf Club (BLUTC) at Sea View Park, Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice and the Nand Persaud and Company, Sky Plus Incorporated race track at No36, Corentyne Berbice have not submitted any request for dates so far. However, the Nand Persaud group will be having their first race met for the year on Sunday 19thFebruary.
