Team Gizmos & Gadgets / Guinness and Team Heineken were crowned winners of
the respective categories when GT Motorsports held its inaugural Endurance Rental Cup Karting on Wednesday night, at the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club on Albert Street and Thomas Road.
Appearing in the 600 lbs category, Team Heineken made up of John Maikoo, Vishal Sawh and Raymond Seebarran registered 86 laps at the termination of the 60 minutes to nip Team E-Racing trio that comprised Jason Gonsalves, Marcel Profitt and Denzel Hopkinson, who also recorded 86 laps, but had a +03.214 seconds difference.
Team Top Power made up of experienced campaigners Brian Ten Pow, Kevin Jeffrey and Shan Seejattan placed third after posting 85 laps. However, Ten Pow had the consolation of registering the fastest lap time of 40.186 seconds.
In the 500lbs Class, Team Gizmos and Gadgets / Guinness with Matthew and John Phang and Steven Nobrega aboard recorded 87 laps in the allotted time after they each completed the mandatory 20 minutes of racing to make up the one hour endurance.
Pre-race favourites Team Nexus with Matthew and Elliott Vieira and Nikhail Seereeram aboard and Team Adrenaline Junkies comprising Nyron Maraj, Ken Sue and Shane Seebarran completed 86 laps after 60 minutes.
Matthew Phang clocked the fastest lap time of 40.142 seconds.
All members of the top three teams in the two categories were rewarded with trophies, while Ten Pow and Matthew Phang were given trophies and special prizes for clocking the fastest lap times.
The activity was coordinated by GT Motorsports with support from main sponsor Secure Innovations and Concepts, Auto Fashion (Fastest Lap Time trophies) and Farfan and Mendes and Monster Energy (Special Prizes).
The large crowd that witnessed the event and the competitors both agreed that the initiative was an excellent one and the call was made to have it at least once a month. Managing Director of Secure Innovations and Concepts, Harold Hopkinson confirmed that his entity will sponsor an event every month for the remainder of the year.
