President of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), K.A. Juman Yassin has responded to the letter from the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), which recognised Horace Burrowes as the legitimate leader of the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF), asking for further intervention in the cycling imbroglio here.
In his letter that was copied to Burrowes and President of the Pan-American Cycling Federation (COPACI), Jose Manuel Pelaez, Yassin asked UCI to send a representative to resolve an impasse between some clubs and the Burrowes-led GCF.
The full text of Yassin’s letter is below:
Mr. Brian Cookson
President
Union Cycliste Internationale
Dear Sir,
I am in receipt of your letter dated the 23rd January, 2017 in relation to the Guyana Cycling Federation. I have taken note that the Guyana Cycling Federation is a full member of the Union Cycliste Internationale and that Mr. Horace Burrowes is recognized as the President.
The Guyana Olympic Association recognizes Mr. Horace Burrowes as the President of the Guyana Cycling Federation and at our last General Assembly Meeting in December, 2016, representatives of Guyana Cycling Federation attended and voted at the meeting.
I wish, however, to bring to your attention that all is not well in Guyana with cycling and the Guyana Cycling Federation and most of its members. As you are aware there are various clubs that constitute the Guyana Cycling Federation and it seemed that the majority of them had passed a motion to attempt to dissolve the executive and appoint an interim committee.
I would urge that you and your body pay keen interest in what is happening in Guyana and in this regard to perhaps send a representative so that there may be some unity between the clubs and the executive of the Guyana Cycling Federation. You would appreciate that if there is disunity then the sport of cycling and our cyclists would be at a great disadvantage.
The Guyana Olympic Association is ready to assist you in whatever measure you are willing to take and hope that this may be soon. I await your response.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. K.A Juman-Yassin
President
Guyana Olympic Association
