A double header is planned for this evening as action in the Limacol Round Robin / Knockout Football Competition resumes, at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.
In the opening encounter, Western Tigers take on New Amsterdam (NA) United and this game will be followed by the clash between Santos and Ann’s Grove.
In the feature clash at 20:30hrs, Santos is coming off an impressive showing in their last match which they won 3-1 and once again the strike force of Job Caesar, Orlando Ricketts, Orin Yards, Keith Caines and Ryan October are expected to run riot over an Ann’s Grove side that is young and relatively inexperience.
Then there is the experience of Vassel Cantzelaar, Jermin Fraser and Samuel Hunte to call upon to nullify any attacking threat from the opposition.
Ann’s Grove will be depending on players such as Ryan Seales, Maxton Adams, Navado Denny, Oswald Duke, NickosI Denny to lead their charge for victory.
Despite the disparity in experience, Ann’s Grove is known for its production of strong, rugged defenders, whose no nonsense approach is a real worry for opposing strikers. Among those whose task it will be to deny Santos’ offensive forays are Quincy Barry, Quincy Johnson, Anil Hernandez and Kevon Barry.
In the preceding encounter, Western Tigers will no doubt be aiming to underline their status as one of the pre-tournament favourites with an emphatic performance.
The enigmatic Randolph Wagner is the leader of the offensive pack and his role is to get goals for his side, while support should come from Dwayne McLennon, Joshua Britton, Daren Benjamin, Jamal Pedro and Rensford Coleridge.
The Tigers backline will be led by the wily veteran Phillip Rowley, whose ability and knowledge of the game is second to none, while the supporting cast will include Cleon Forrester and Ryan Adolph.
The visitors are coming off a disappointing loss in their previous engagement, but will obviously be looking for a more positive result this time around.
Siblings Leonardo and Adrian Adams combined with the speed of Jamal Butts could be a handful for the aging Tigers backline.
The quality of their defence is not on par with the Tigers so goals are important.
However, goalkeeper Jovano Dos Santos is regarded as a solid shot stopper and hopefully tonight is one of those occasions where his skill and ability all come together.
Starting time is 18:30hrs.
The following day the competition goes to the National Track and Field Facility in Leonora where Uitvlugt hosts Eagles United from 18:30hrs and Pouderoyen collide with Den Amstel at 20:30hrs.
The final matches of Round One on January 28th will pit Milerock against Northern Rangers and Winners Connection against Grove Hi-Tech, at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.
The winner of each group will collect $100,000, while the respective finishers will be given $50,000, $30,000 and $20,000 each.
Winner of the event will receive $500,000 and a trophy, while the second, third and fourth placed teams take home $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
Banks DIH Limited under the GT Beer Brand, Trophy Stall and Star Party Rentals are the other companies on board.
