The GT Motor Sports Endurance Race Meet which will be staged tonight at the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) received a timely boost after Palm Court offered sponsorship to Team Vieira yesterday,
at the entity’s location on Main Street.
Making the presentation to Team Vieira member Emma Vieira was Events & Marketing Manager Sasha Lewis, who did so in the presence of Managing Director Navin Prashad and another member of the team Stephen Vieira.
Prashad, who has been a prolific supporter of motor racing, having doled out sponosrship to the likes of Group 4 & 3 drivers Rupie Shewjattan and Rameeze Mohamed, speaking with this newspaper, said he felt inclined to get on board because the sport continues to expand and was convinced that the initiative was a good one.
He also spoke of the composition of the team which includes a mixture of experience and youth, pointing to Mark and Stephen as the two that possesss experience, while Emma is a young and exciting driver.
Emma when asked how she felt going into the event said she was extremely excited and was confident that her team will win.
The young racer, who has the sport splattered all over her veins, is the daughter of Mark, whose exploits and reputation is well documented in regional racing.
Emma is a very promising karter and has recorded the fourth fastest time on the new circuit, clocking a fantastic 39.4 seconds and word is that, that could be lowered because she is revved up for the opposing teams.
Stephen, who is more celebrated for his Superbike heroics, admitted that karting is a new phase in his racing career and he is now beginning to adapt to the change.
He too echoed sentiments of confidence which according to him is simply because of the strong team that he is a part of.
Vieira disclosed that there will be two weight classes including the 500 and 600 and they are entered in the former with each member required to drive a minimum of twenty minutes for a total of one hour.
Meanwhile, racing fans are being urged to get down to the GMR&SC location to witness a night of daredevilry.
Admission is free and action starts at 19:00hrs.
