THE RULING ELITE IS OBSESSED WITH POWER

Dear Editor,
It seems that the New Year will not bring any relief to the poor and the lower working class who continue to be the casualties of the mismanagement of the economy under the current government. This is weighing heavily on them who are struggling to put food on the table or a roof over their heads. The promises made to the youths have gone for naught. But this is alien information to the ruling cabal who are isolated from the pains and perils of the masses. The more the administration borrows the more they are likely to squander the taxpayers’ money on more Ponzi scheme projects like the Durban Park Project, the drug bond scandal and the expensive audit reports which seems to be a waste of money and time.
This is the story of the administration which has abandoned the youths who came out in droves to vote for the government. But it is important for youths to understand that their fight against the PPP is fleetingly and temporarily. Temporarily because today the country is saddled with a bunch of incompetent, corrupt, arrogant and abrasive public officials who are confused and inexperienced and are driving the country over the abyss. However, the young people should never be ashamed of their action for standing for truth and justice in the 2015 election. Had the PPP not lost power, its leaders also would not have stepped out of their ivory tower and humble themselves and listened to the people. Today, we have an administration that is mismanaging the country, manipulating the treasury and disrespecting the poor by paying themselves a fifty percent salary increase and granting two ministers millions of dollars to pursue graduate and post graduate degrees.
It is now clear that both the PPP and the APNU+AFC government are bad for Guyana. It is time for the rational middle class to start mobilizing again. We are calling on the youths and the rational middle class to start raising their voices against wrongdoings by the bankrupt political forces. After 18 months in office, there is hardly any change as promised by the coalition. In fact, what the people got is exchange and not change. The economy is failing, unemployment is high, crime is rampant and the social services are crumbling, and yet the non-descriptive characters at the helm of the government seem to believe that all is well with the people.
Those in authority have no interest in the youth and no energy or interest in chartering a course to transform Guyana. What is the purpose of the Ministries of Social Cohesion, Immigration or Business or the department of GO-Invest? It seems that the Ministry of Agriculture is operating as if it has a ghost for a Minister? The Ministry of Health has two medical doctors and yet people continue to die from simple illnesses, infant mortality rate remains high and the public hospitals are plagued by simple problems.
There are failures in every government department, yet the head of state seems to believe that this is the best cabinet. If this is not delusional, then what is? These “knick knack paddy-whacks” are so obsessed with power that they have become power drunk. At the minimum, the people had expected a competent, transparent, accountable, honest and trustworthy government; instead they have the opposite.
